This course intends to address important issues in the research of language learning strategies in second language acquisition and focus on its rationale and theoretical applications to language teaching and learner training. Through a series of lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities, the course will help you:
Examine the theoretical assumptions, research history, and typology of learning strategies;
Explore possible ways of obtaining, analyzing information on L2 learner’s learning process;
Learn how to assess the individual needs of students to enhance effectiveness in the classroom;
Develop strategy-based materials and resources to fit the classroom needs;
Design strategies-based activities and generate new teaching ideas; and
Gain a deeper awareness of your own strengths both as a learner and as a teacher.
